When a man starts to say to himself, “Life is potential, almost anything is possible”, he starts to think like a creator. He starts putting himself on an equality with God. He will see of course that there are 101 differences or inequalities between himself and any real or mythical God; but he will see that there is the beginning of equality of consciousness, and of understanding. He will begin to realise that he sees the same potential for good in any given situation, that God sees himself. He will next appreciate that his solution to the problem of what to do about the potential of any given situation begins to correspond with God's solution. In other words, what God regards as opportunities, he regards as opportunities. What God regards as temptation, he regards as temptation. And if the use he desires to make of the opportunities is the same as God desires, he will see there is nothing to prevent their collaborating. Collaboration begins (in the army and elsewhere) when each begins to understand the function of the other. The difference is that collaboration with God must be full and free; collaboration in the army is necessarily enforced.
